ABSTRACT

Background: COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus, which affects people, detected in December 2019, in Hubei province, China. It is a pandemic that affects many countries around the world and especially the most vulnerable people. Clinical case: 86-year-old male patient with a history of hypertension, type II diabetes mellitus, grade II obesity, COPD, went to the emergency room due to arthralgia 24 hours before admission, dyspnea on small efforts, hyperthermia, severe hypoxemia, improving saturation with 6 to 8 liters of oxygen. On admission physical examination, poor ventilatory mechanics, with respiratory thoracoabdominal dissociation, pafi: 104, for which we proceed to rapid intubation and admission to the intensive care unit, taking a sample for rapid COVID TEST, giving IgG and IgM positive. He remains intubated for 9 days, is discharged to hospitalization, where he is maintained with oxygen support for 12 days, plus pharmacological treatment, receives medical discharge with isolation measures, drugs, oxygen therapy and self-care education. Conclusion: it is a case of survival to covid-19 of an elderly, vulnerable patient, who was treated in the intensive care unit, with mechanical ventilation, after hospitalization and then at home, receives education on the management of isolation, protection measures, epidemiological monitoring and self-control of diabetes, hypertension and dietary hygiene measures. The case is followed up and the patient is in better condition.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has generated a great impact worldwide since December 2019. It is a new respiratory disease and is presented as a threat to public health. Currently, there is no medication capable of completely treating the symptoms and the objective of the study is to relate the use of herbal medicine as an alternative for prevention and treatment of Covid-19 with the frequency and form of consumption, Cañar-Ecuador. A quantitative, relational, non-experimental study was carried out. The sample was made up of 829 randomly selected individuals. The data were collected through a survey, in person and online. Results: 96.2% of the sample consumed some type of alternative medicine as prevention and treatment of Covid-19;57.8% are female, 75.6% reside in urban areas, and 43.1% have a third level of education. 52.2% consumed eucalyptus, 23.6% ginger, inhaled and infused, in relation to the frequency of consumption, 33.7% did so once a week. There is a very significant relationship between the frequency of consumption with the type of herbal medicine and the form of preparation, p value of 0.000. In conclusion, a high percentage of the population resorted to the use of medicinal plants as viable options for the prevention and treatment of coronavirus, where more than 90% of respondents described the herbal alternative as effective. © 2020, Venezuelan Society of Pharmacology and Clinical and Therapeutic Pharmacology. ABSTRACT

Lately, children in the United States and Europe have pre-sented symptoms of systemic inflammation associated with Kawasaki Syndrome, according to the results of diagnostic tests, the hypothesis is considered that this pathology may be linked to COVID-19. The objective is: Define information on Kawasaki disease associated with COVID-19 in children. Methodology: The work is based on an integrated review of the literature obtained from different databases such as: Me-digraphic, Nature publishing group, scielo, sciencedirect, re-searchgate, academic Google and Pubmed. Original articles available in English and Spanish from the last five years were included. Results: 1264 articles related to the topic were identified, for the analysis 15 documents were selected through the reading of the abstracts where it is analyzed, the scientific basis, the objective and the main findings. Conclusion: Although the studies carried out indicate that there may be a relationship between Kawasaki syndrome and COVID 19, it cannot be assured that it is a complication due to a reaction of the immune system of children. © 2020, Venezuelan Society of Pharmacology and Clinical and Therapeutic Pharmacology. ABSTRACT

The main objective was to psychometrically establish the nature of the construct underlying the symptoms of anxiety and depression associated with isolation by COVID-19 in adult women of Azogues. A quantitative, non-experimental, prospective and descriptive-correlational study was carried out with a correlational, comparative and predictive cross-sectional design. A simple random sampling was carried out. The sample consisted of 381 adult women (18 to 65 years old) from the city of Azogues, Ecuador. A sociodemographic survey was administered, as well as the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the State-Trait Depression Inventory (IDER). A descriptive analysis was performed by means of (percentages, frequencies, central tendency measures), a normality test by means of Shapiro Wilk (W), correlation analysis (r Pearson), mean difference analysis (Student t test for independent samples) and finally a multiple linear regression. The first model for predicting anxiety and depression was statistically significant for age (f= 12.66;p= .0001). Anxiety was not a statistically significant predictor for age (β=-0.04;p= .562). While depression was a statistically significant inverse or negative predictor of age (β=-0.27;p= .002). and for the second model of prediction of anxiety and depression was statistically significant for the days of quarantine (f= 4.61;p= .0001). Anxiety was a negative predictor of quarantine days (β=-0.16;p= .002) and depression a positive predictor of quarantine days (β= 0.25;p= .001). © 2020, Venezuelan Society of Pharmacology and Clinical and Therapeutic Pharmacology. ABSTRACT

Currently, multiple clinical and paraclinical variables have been found to predict prognosis in patients with VOC-19. The clinical presentation may be mild, moderate, or even present as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multisystem organ failure (MSF) with fatal outcome. The identification of prognostic factors, both clinical and para-clinical, will allow the grading of patients’ risk and the active control of the severity of the disease. The main objective was to determine the clinical and paraclinical variables predicting prognosis in patients with FOM-19. A systematic review will be conducted. The search will be performed in the following databases: PubMed, Taylor and Francis, LILACS, Springer, Scopus, Web of Science and CINAHL. The search will use keywords based on DeCs and MeSH categorization, using the Boolean AND and OR connections. The variables (clini-cal history) for this study will be as follows: Age, signs and symptoms, history, mortality, laboratory tests, habits and treatments. The aim is to provide scientific evidence and cre-ate national statistics to facilitate the use of prognostic variables in the evolution of the disease;in this way, we will be able to get a close look at this new disease we are facing, according to our population reality. © 2020, Venezuelan Society of Pharmacology and Clinical and Therapeutic Pharmacology. ABSTRACT

The emergence of COVID-19 and its pandemic nature has exacerbated fears around the world. Unfortunately, fear can magnify the damage of the disease itself. The main objective of the project is to determine the fear of COVID-19 in pre-pro-fessional interns in the undergraduate nursing career and to generate a nursing care plan. The research will work on two methodological studies: the first study, a set of psychometric tests will be developed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Fear of COVID-19 Scale-FCV-19S Instrument and linguistic and cultural adaptation to the Ecuadorian context, through a pilot study with a sample of 55 students of the nursing career Azogues headquarters and will be done through a confirmatory factor analysis (AFC), using three adjustment indexes: CFI (Comparative Fix Index), RMSEA (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation) and SRMR (Standardized Root Mean Square Residual). And, the second study, a quan-titative, prospective, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional study with a non-experimental design will be carried out with a sample of 236 interns of pre-professional practices of the nursing career. A sociodemographic survey and Fear of CO-VID-19 Scale-FCV-19S, a scale adapted to the Ecuadorian context carried out in the first methodological study of the present project, will be applied;A descriptive analysis will be carried out, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test will be applied, and differences in means will be analysed using the Student T test for independent samples. © 2020, Venezuelan Society of Pharmacology and Clinical and Therapeutic Pharmacology.
